Do you have any advice about going home over the Holiday Break?

“During freshman year, I was super excited to go home and spend time with my family. I was expecting my parents to give me my freedom, but instead they were always asking me where I was going, what I was doing, and when I would be back. They were frustrated when I said I didn’t know. It made the break seem super long and not very fun because my parents were always worrying about me and I was annoyed because I wanted to do my own thing. My advice to anyone going home for the break is to communicate your boundaries before you get home. This will make everything less awkward and more enjoyable for everyone.”

Did you go home over the Holiday Break?

Unfortunately, I was unable to go home during my freshman year. I am from Nepal. I would have loved to go home during the break but for me it was unreasonable for me. The flights were too expensive, so I just stayed in my dorm. The dorms were very quiet over the break, there was only about three people on my entire floor! I learned a lot of different board and card games over the break, as that is what we did to past time. I was also able to watch a lot of movies and TV shows. However, staying there wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. It was nice to relax and get a break from school. I also became really good friends with the three other people that stayed with me!”
